Bayelsa Inaugurates Committees for 30th Anniversary Celebration

The Bayelsa State Government has inaugurated six sub-committees to commence preparations for activities marking the 30th anniversary of the state's creation on October 1.

Speaking during the inauguration at Government House, Yenagoa, on Wednesday, Deputy Governor Dr Peter Akpe said the anniversary provides an opportunity for the state to thank God for the progress made over the past three decades, particularly in infrastructure and development.

Akpe directed the sub-committees to submit proposals for their assigned activities within two weeks in line with their terms of reference, stressing the need to organise a memorable and historic celebration.

He disclosed that the anniversary programme would begin with two weeks of commissioning of completed projects executed by the Prosperity Administration before the official three-day celebration, scheduled to commence on September 29.

According to the deputy governor, activities lined up for the celebration include a cultural carnival, a boat regatta, an anniversary lecture, sporting events, a state banquet, and an awards night.

The inaugurated committees include the Awards Sub Committee, chaired by King Bubaraye Dakolo; the Sports Sub Committee, headed by Daniel Igali; and the Lecture Sub Committee, chaired by Prof. Stephen Olali.

Others are the Mega Praise Sub Committee, jointly chaired by Deputy Governor Peter Akpe and the Managing Director of Premium Trust Bank, Dr Emmanuel Emiefenim; the Cultural Sub Committee headed by Rt. Hon. Monday Bubou Obolo; and the Publicity Sub Committee chaired by the Commissioner for Information, Ebiuwou Koku Obiyai.

The Bayelsa State Government said the anniversary celebration is expected to showcase the state's achievements and reflect on its development journey since its creation in 1996.
