Windows 11 Rolls Out Major 25H2 Update with New Copilot Tools, UI Improvements and Key Fixes

Microsoft has released a major new update for Windows 11 users in the Dev and Beta Channels, pushing out Build 26220.7523—a feature-packed refresh that introduces expanded Copilot integration, revamped input experiences and a long list of system improvements.

The headline addition is Ask Copilot on the taskbar, now rolling out to commercial users with Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses. The feature creates a unified entry point for search, AI agents and productivity actions, allowing users to trigger Copilot with a click, invoke agents with “@”, and get faster results across apps, files and settings.

Microsoft is also introducing Agents on the taskbar, offering real-time updates on tasks handled by AI agents such as Researcher. Users can monitor progress with taskbar previews and receive notifications when reports are completed.

Another major capability, Agent Launchers, now lets developers register AI agents inside apps so they can be discovered and activated across the system.

Accessibility gets a boost with Narrator personalization, allowing users to control exactly which details are spoken when navigating controls. Voice typing has also been redesigned to remove the intrusive full-screen overlay and make dictation more seamless.

Windows 11 is adding a new Discover Windows widget, offering timely tips and shortcuts that appear on the widgets board or the lock screen. Microsoft is also expanding Settings Agent language support to German, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Italian and simplified Chinese.

The update delivers a long list of improvements and bug fixes, including better File Explorer stability, faster search, improved handling of OneDrive files, login screen reliability, and fixes for Windows Update errors and adaptive brightness issues.

However, Microsoft notes a few known issues, including Start menu failures for some users, missing app icons in the system tray and File Explorer crashes when opening context menus.
