Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Records Highest Student Intake In 12 years

Students seeking admission into Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Aba are set to benefit from expanded facilities and improved infrastructure following a surge in admissions, the highest recorded by the institution in the past twelve years.

‎The Rector, Prof. Engr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, disclosed this while addressing members of the Academic Board on Wednesday, noting that the number of candidates admitted through JAMB is the highest recorded within the period under review.

‎He assured that accommodation, which had posed a major challenge for students, is being addressed through the construction of more standardized hostel facilities.

‎

‎“A time will come when over 90 percent of our students will gain admission through JAMB by the grace of God, and accommodation challenges will be completely resolved. We are building stronger and more standardized hostels for them,” he said.

‎

‎The Rector also appreciated the state government for approving the construction of Phase One and Phase Two of the road network at the institution’s Osisioma campus. According to him, the project will feature a dual carriageway with six lanes, while construction work is expected to resume next week.

‎Commending the efforts of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, the Rector described the ongoing infrastructural support as a significant boost to the institution’s relocation plans.

‎“The Governor is a magician; he is mystical in doing those things for us to move over to Osisioma Campus.”

‎Speaking on staff welfare, Okoro Kalu stated that management remains focused to prioritizing institutional development and staff wellbeing, stressing that funds allocated to the Polytechnic would be strictly utilized for maintenance and growth.

‎He also expressed gratitude to the state government for approving a new salary structure for staff, adding that implementation of payment is expected to commence soon.

‎“On behalf of the board, we appreciate His Excellency for approving the 2024 salary structure,” he said.

‎The Rector concluded by thanking members of the Polytechnic community for their support and turnout during the January 30 Ukwuala Ngwa civic reception held in honour of the governor, as well as their participation in activities marking the commissioning of the Abam–Omenuko Bridge on February 13, describing the gesture as encouraging and a motivation to continue advancing the institution’s development. development
