Gusau, Lulu, Ogunnowo to Receive Gwagwalada Football Merit Awards

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, former NFF President, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, and Chief Operating Officer of the Nationwide League One (NLO), Olushola Ogunnowo, have been named recipients of the 2025 Gwagwalada Football League Merit Awards.

Chairman of the Organising Committee, Patrick Ngwaogu, announced the nominations in Gwagwalada, Abuja, noting that the trio was selected for their long-standing contributions to grassroots football development across the country.

He said the awards will be presented on Sunday, 14 December 2025, during the grand finale of the 20th edition of the Gwagwalada Football League. The league, which began in 2005 with 10 teams, now features 26 clubs drawn from Gwagwalada and neighbouring communities.

Ngwaogu said this year’s ceremony is significant as it marks two decades of continuous grassroots football activity. “We painstakingly selected the three individuals based on their personal contributions to grassroots football,” he said.

Preparations are underway for the final match, which will see Ejiwumi FC face Sheikhandam FC. Ejiwumi FC reached the final after defeating Medical Strikers Feeders 1–0, while Sheikhandam FC advanced with a 3–1 win over NIMMA FC.

The final and award ceremony will be held at Government Day Secondary School, Gwagwalada, with players, supporters and stakeholders expected to attend.
