AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Beat Tunisia 3–2, Secure Round of 16 Spot {VIDEO}

Nigeria’s Super Eagles booked an early place in the Round of 16 of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations after a 3–2 victory over Tunisia in Fès on Saturday.

Goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman handed Nigeria a 3–0 lead before a late fightback by the Carthage Eagles set up a tense finish.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 44th minute, heading home from a deep cross by Lookman after an earlier effort had been ruled offside. Nigeria doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half when Ndidi met Lookman’s corner to score his first senior international goal on his 73rd appearance.

The Super Eagles extended the lead to 3–0 in the 70th minute as Lookman capped a flowing team move, created by Alex Iwobi and Osimhen, with a low finish for his second goal of the tournament.

Tunisia pulled one back through Montassar Talbi, who headed in from a free kick, before Ali Abdi converted a penalty in the 87th minute following a VAR review by Malian referee Boubou Traore.

Despite late pressure, Nigeria held on to secure all three points and move to the top of the group with six points, ahead of their final group match against Uganda’s Cranes on Tuesday.

The win confirms Nigeria’s progress to the knockout stage with a game to spare.
