LASTMA: Viral Video Showing Foreign Content Creator, Fari Elysian is Misleading

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has described a viral video circulating on social media as misleading, stating that the incident depicted was investigated and resolved in 2023.
In a statement on Thursday, the agency said the footage, which resurfaced on X (formerly Twitter), shows an alleged altercation between its officials and a ride-hailing driver, with a foreign woman seen offering money during the encounter.LASTMA explained that the incident occurred on February 11, 2023, and was promptly investigated at the time, stressing that it has no connection to its current operations.
According to the agency, all officials identified in the video were summoned and interrogated. At the same time, those found to have violated operational guidelines were disciplined in line with public service rules later in 2023.
The authority described the renewed circulation of the video as regrettable, noting that it was reposted without context and in a manner that could mislead the public and damage its image.
LASTMA urged motorists and members of the public to disregard the footage, emphasising that the matter was conclusively resolved and does not reflect present realities.
While reaffirming respect for freedom of expression, the agency cautioned against recirculating resolved incidents without fresh facts, warning that such actions could fuel unnecessary public outrage.
The authority also expressed appreciation to Lagos motorists for their cooperation and compliance, and reiterated its commitment to professionalism and humane traffic management across the state.
