The Abia Patriots Condemn APC’s Political Conduct, Describe It As “Buffoonery”

The Abia Patriots have condemned what they described as the growing resort to theatrics and misinformation in Abia State politics, following a trending online video involving the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

In the video, the Deputy Speaker was seen entertaining an audience with a campaign-style song which the group alleges contained “libellous falsehoods” directed at the person and office of the Governor of Abia State.

Reacting to the development, the group expressed concern over what it termed a shift from issue-based political engagement to what it called “political buffoonery” by the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the statement, the group frowned at what it described as the increasing use of public jest, name-calling, and entertainment-driven political messaging, which it said undermines the seriousness of governance and democratic engagement.

“The Abia State APC has chosen to convert our political space into a circus of theatrics and buffoonery,” the group stated, adding that such approach “insults the intelligence of Abians and mocks the sacrifices made for the rebirth of the state.”

The Abia Patriots further argued that politics should be centred on policies and developmental ideas rather than “skits, slander, and social media comedy,” insisting that governance requires competence and vision, not propaganda.

The group also warned against what it described as a return to “old, dirty politics of character assassination and public entertainment,” urging residents to remain vigilant and focused on issues of governance and development.

“We charge all Abians to remain vigilant. Do not be deceived by carefully choreographed comedies designed to distract from real governance issues,” the statement added.

It concluded by reaffirming its position that Abia State must continue on a path of development, free from distractions it attributed to opposition theatrics.
