The Movement to Osisioma Campus is a reality as work progresses Rapidly – Dr. Okoro

The Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Engr. Dr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to commencing full academic activities at the institution’s Osisioma Campus in the shortest possible time, as ongoing infrastructural projects at the campus advance rapidly.

Dr. Okoro made this known on Wednesday during an expanded management meeting held at the Polytechnic’s Council Chamber. He disclosed that several projects at the Osisioma Campus are nearing completion, adding that the institution’s current infrastructural development efforts are now fully concentrated on the campus.

According to him, all ongoing buildings at the Osisioma Campus are expected to be completed and commissioned between March and April, paving the way for the relocation of academic activities.

The Rector reiterated the Polytechnic’s policy prohibiting the sale of textbooks to students and urged staff to relate with students in a humane manner, while avoiding unethical practices. He also emphasized his administration’s commitment to staff welfare, describing a motivated workforce as critical to effective service delivery.

“We will continue to fight for the welfare of the staff, and it will please us if they, in turn, fight for the welfare of the students,” Dr. Okoro said.

He further disclosed plans by the management to introduce a programme in Sports and Physical Education, following a proposal by the State Commissioner for Sports, noting that the course would be domiciled in the School of Business and Management Technology (SBMT).

Dr. Okoro also announced plans to introduce evening programmes for students of Mass Communication and Engineering, while assuring that convocation ceremonies would be held annually under his leadership.

“As long as I remain here, as it pleases His Excellency, convocation will be held annually. We will not deny people what is due to them,” he stated.

The Rector expressed appreciation to members of staff for their show of solidarity during his mother-in-law’s traditional retirement ceremony and commended the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for approving a new structural salary payment for the institution. He pledged that the Polytechnic would align its operations with the state’s development agenda, themed Acceleration and New Possibilities.
