Tinubu Approves Posting of 65 Ambassadors to Foreign Missions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official postings of 65 ambassadors to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions across the world, including 31 career diplomats and 34 non career ambassadors.

The appointments were confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December last year.

A statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the postings cover several countries and international missions, including Nigeria’s representation at the United Nations. Among the prominent non career nominees are former governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, who has been posted to Spain; former Minister of Health, Isaac Folorunso Adewole, assigned to Canada; former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, posted to China; and former Ekiti State deputy governor, Olufemi Pedro, who will serve in Australia.

Other notable appointments include Reno Omokri as ambassador to Mexico, Femi Fani Kayode to Germany, Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.

Former Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has been posted to Greece, while Ita Enang will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to South Africa.

According to the presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, who will serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK. France has also issued agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke as Nigeria’s envoy to the country.

The statement explained that nominations of the other designated envoys have been formally communicated to their respective host countries, alongside requests for agrément in line with diplomatic procedures.

President Tinubu also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence induction programmes for the ambassadors designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to foreign missions.

The postings cover diplomatic missions across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas, reinforcing Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and international engagement.
