Abia Patriots Urge INEC to Recognise Nenadi Usman as Labour Party Leader

A group of elder statesmen in Abia State, The Abia Patriots (TAP), has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply with a recent Federal High Court judgment affirming Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as the authentic leader of the Labour Party (LP).

The call was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary General of the group, Mazi Adindu Madumere, in which TAP welcomed the ruling delivered by Justice Peter Lifu. The group noted that the judgment is consistent with an earlier decision of the Supreme Court and urged INEC to formally recognise the Senator Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee as the legitimate leadership of the party.

According to TAP, adherence to the court ruling would help reduce political distractions and enable the current administration in the state to concentrate fully on governance.

The group also commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for remaining focused on development despite the internal crises within the Labour Party. TAP praised the governor for sustaining the tempo of governance and prioritising the delivery of tangible dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

The statement read in part: “In line with our avowed desire to reduce political distraction in Abia while refocusing the concentration of government one hundred percent on the critical conduct of governance, we urge INEC to respect the court’s decision and recognise the Senator Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee as the legitimate leadership of the Labour Party. This will surely quicken the current pace of governance and deliver more dividends of democracy to our people.”
