AFCON 2025: No crisis in Super Eagles camp — Team Administrator

The Nigeria Super Eagles camp has dismissed reports suggesting unrest within the team following Monday night’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique, which secured Nigeria’s place in the quarter-finals of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Speculation of a rift emerged after striker Victor Osimhen was seen making gestures toward fellow forward Ademola Lookman shortly before a corner kick during the match, sparking widespread conjecture across traditional and social media platforms.

Reacting to the reports on Tuesday, Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor played down the claims, insisting there is no internal crisis in the squad.

“There is no problem whatsoever in our camp. Whatever people saw as a crisis between two brothers was resolved a couple of hours later. All is well, and the team is currently in training,” Achor said.

He also debunked reports that striker Jerome Akor Adams had left the team camp, explaining that the forward only briefly stepped out to visit his mother, who was hospitalised in Fès.

“He took permission to see his mother and returned to camp in less than an hour,” Achor added.

On the pitch, deputy captain Osimhen scored twice against Mozambique, taking his tally to 34 goals in 50 appearances for Nigeria; just three short of the all-time Super Eagles record of 37 goals held by the late Rashidi Yekini.

Lookman, who went into the match with two goals and two assists from earlier group games against Tanzania and Tunisia, added another goal and provided three assists in the convincing win. He had earlier missed the match against Uganda.

Meanwhile, the team returned to training on Tuesday evening at the Sardienne Complex, with all 26 available players taking part. Young defender Ryan Alebiosu continues his recovery from injury.

The three-time African champions will on Thursday travel to Marrakech, where they will face the winner of the quarter-final clash between Algeria’s Fennecs and DR Congo’s Leopards in a last-eight encounter scheduled for Saturday at 5 pm.
