CAF Bans Eto’o for Four AFCON Matches, Fines Him $20,000 Over Misconduct

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has sanctioned the President of the Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT), Mr Samuel Eto’o Fils, over misconduct during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 match between Morocco and Cameroon.

In a statement issued after its sitting, the CAF Disciplinary Board said Mr Eto’o was charged and found guilty of violating the principles of sportsmanship during the AFCON fixture played in Rabat on January 9, 2026.

According to CAF, the former Cameroon international breached Article 2(3) of the CAF Statutes as well as Article 82 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, which relate to conduct that undermines the integrity and spirit of the game.

As a result, the Disciplinary Board imposed a stadium ban on the FECAFOOT president, barring him from attending the next four official CAF matches played in the context of the TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025.

In addition to the ban, CAF also imposed a fine of $20,000 on Mr Eto’o.

The incident leading to the sanction occurred during the Morocco versus Cameroon match, although CAF did not provide specific details of the misconduct in its statement.

“CAF will make no further comment on the matter,” the statement added.

Mr Eto’o, one of Africa’s most decorated former footballers, has been FECAFOOT president since 2021. His tenure has been marked by a series of controversies, including disputes involving refereeing, administration, and disciplinary issues.

The sanction means Mr Eto’o will be absent from the stands for Cameroon’s next CAF fixtures at the ongoing AFCON tournament, pending the completion of the four-match ban.

CAF’s decision underscores its stance on enforcing discipline and sportsmanship at major continental competitions, as the Morocco 2025 AFCON continues across host cities.
