Anyaso Praises Otti, Kalu, at Ofuji New Year Thanksgiving in Igbere; Calls for Unity

Indigenes of Igbere and residents of Abia North Senatorial Zone gathered in Bende Local Government Area, Abia State, for the Ofuji All-White Fireworks Praise and Worship Party, a New Year thanksgiving hosted by philanthropist and political leader, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso.

The event, held on January 1, 2026, drew political leaders, traditional rulers, religious figures, community groups, and social associations from across Abia North. Activities included praise and worship sessions, musical performances,s and a fireworks display, with organisers saying more than 3,000 shots were fired to usher in the New Year.

Addressing attendees, Anyaso said the gathering was strictly a thanksgiving and not a political rally, stressing the need for unity among the people of the area.

“This is not a political rally. This is a family gathering. Before party affiliations and elections, we are brothers and sisters bound by blood, history, and destiny,” he said.

He thanked God for life and preservation and described the turnout as a reflection of shared responsibility for the development of Bende and Abia North.

Anyaso commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti for what he described as decisive leadership, particularly on the reconstruction of the Umuahia–Arochukwu Road.

“That road is not just asphalt and stones; it is hope restored, economic revival, and proof that leadership can work,” he said, adding that the people of Bende had consistently supported the governor at the polls.

He also praised the Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, for his contributions to the zone, describing him as resilient and committed to its progress.

“Your voice continues to resonate nationally, and we thank you for your service to Abia North,” Anyaso said.

In his remarks, Senator Kalu described the event as unifying and timely, noting that it underscored the importance of coming together to thank God.

The Ofuji Movement convener also spoke on the New Year, cautioning against resolutions without effort and emphasising the need for hard work to back faith. On security, he urged residents to remain vigilant, noting that personal conduct and awareness play a role in safety.

Anyaso said the Thanksgiving is an annual event and explained that this year’s edition was expanded and shifted from December 31 to January 1 to allow broader participation.

The programme ended with prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity in Bende, Abia State, and Nigeria.
