Otti Reaffirms Retirement Plan, Says Visit to Kanu Not Political

Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti has restated that he will quit politics after completing his tenure as governor, dismissing insinuations that his recent visit to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto was connected to a future presidential, vice-presidential, or senatorial ambition.

Speaking at Government House, Umuahia, on Friday, Otti addressed a viral video in which an individual criticized him and claimed he was positioning himself for higher office after his tenure.

Otti said Nigerians are free to express their opinions but noted that differing views do not automatically translate to truth.

He stressed that he has made his intentions clear in the past and is reiterating them again: he will retire from politics once he is done as governor.

“I don’t have presidential, vice-presidential, or senatorial ambition. I came for a mission, and when I deliver that mission, I will give way to younger people,” he said.

Reacting to suggestions that his visit to Nnamdi Kanu is part of a wider plan for an Igbo presidency, Otti dismissed the notion, insisting that such assumptions have “collapsed,” since he will not be on any ballot after his governorship.
