Prof. Eme Inspects Ongoing Projects at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Osisioma Campus; Applauds Rector

The Abia State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Eme Uche Eme, on Wednesday inspected ongoing projects at the Osisioma Campus of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, including the first phase of the 5,000-capacity male and female hostels.

The inspection tour was conducted in company of the Rector of the institution, Engr. Prof. Christopher Okoro Kalu, members of the Governing Council, management team, and the Academic Board, as part of efforts to assess progress and ensure the early commencement of academic activities at the campus.

Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, Prof. Eme commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, describing him as a results-driven leader and a history maker. She noted that the visible transformation at the campus underscores the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.

“The first time we visited this campus, many facilities were abandoned. Today, we have witnessed massive construction, reconstruction, and repainting of several buildings within a short period,” the Commissioner stated.

Prof. Eme disclosed that the Governor has far-reaching plans for Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic and other tertiary institutions across the state, assuring that the government is fully aware of the institutions’ needs and is deliberately addressing them. She reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to strengthen technical education through skill acquisition and quality, industry-driven training.

During the visit, the Commissioner laid a foundation at the campus and commended the quality of fabricated works produced by the Polytechnic’s students. She also expressed delight at the reforms introduced by the institution’s management, particularly the elimination of sorting and student exploitation, noting that the measures have created a more conducive learning environment. She further assured of the government’s commitment to adequate student admission and accommodation.

The Commissioner also inspected ongoing projects including the library complex, School of Business Studies, medical building, and the Administrative Complex.

In his remarks, the Rector, Engr. Prof. Christopher Okoro Kalu, appreciated the Alex Otti-led administration for its sustained support to the institution. He further announced the approval of a new salary structure for staff, disclosing that its implementation and payment would commence next week.
