2027: Bayelsa West YPP Candidate Tombra Mohammed Promises Jobs, Better Representation

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate for the Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the 2027 general election, Tombra Jennifer Mohammed, has said her decision to contest the Senate seat is driven by what she described as poor leadership and the failure of elected officials to deliver the dividends of democracy.

Tombra, an indigene of Aleibiri in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, said job creation would be a key priority of her legislative agenda if elected to represent the district in the Senate.

Speaking on her ambition, she said Bayelsa West deserves leadership that focuses on development and addresses the people's needs.

"My decision to contest is as a result of the lack of effective leadership that genuinely brings about the dividends of democracy," she said.

She identified unemployment as one of the biggest challenges facing the district, noting that creating employment opportunities for young people would remain central to her campaign.

On women's participation in politics, Tombra said she understands the challenges women face in Nigeria's political system but remains committed to breaking barriers.

"I was brought up as a human being with equal rights by my late father, Chief M. Y. Waritimi, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, so I can relate personally to most of the challenges women face in politics. However, I am not ignorant of the segregation and alienation of women from Nigerian politics," she said.

She pledged to encourage and support more women to participate actively in politics and governance.

The YPP candidate also expressed confidence in her chances at the polls, citing her grassroots political activities across communities in Bayelsa West.

According to her, her campaign team covered more than 90 per cent of the senatorial district during the last election, describing the outreach as unprecedented in the district's political history.

Tombra assured residents of the Sagbama and Ekeremor federal constituencies that her election would bring effective representation and improved democratic dividends to the people.
