Abia Patriots Laud Otti’s Economic Milestones, Urge Sustained Reforms

The Abia Patriots (TAP) has applauded Governor Alex Otti over what it described as measurable economic progress recorded in Abia State, following remarks by the President and Chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Prof. Pius Olarenwaju, during a recent visit to the state.

In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Mazi Adindu Madumere, the group commended the governor’s leadership, citing reported gains including a 10 per cent increase in the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and an 8 per cent reduction in poverty levels.

Governor Otti’s administration has unlocked Abia State’s potential, positioning it as a hub for economic opportunity,” Madumere stated.

He highlighted key achievements of the administration to include the creation of over 10,000 jobs, improvements in healthcare delivery, and expanded education infrastructure driven by the free education policy.

According to him, the introduction of free education has led to over a 100 per cent increase in school enrolment, with 5,394 teachers already recruited and an additional 4,000 awaiting employment.

TAP further commended the CIBN for its curriculum reform initiatives and urged the state government to adopt the updated curriculum across state-owned tertiary institutions. The group welcomed proposals for regional conferences, financial literacy programmes, and broader collaboration.

While acknowledging the administration’s achievements, TAP urged the government to sustain the pace of development, particularly in tackling unemployment, improving healthcare access, and modernising the education sector.

Madumere emphasised that " There is still much to be done".
