Man City Sign Ghana’s Semenyo from Bournemouth in £65m Deal

Manchester City have completed the signing of Ghana international Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in a deal valued at about £65 million.

The transfer represents a record sale for the Cherries after City triggered Semenyo’s release clause, which had to be activated before Saturday. The Premier League champions will pay £62.5 million in 24 monthly instalments, with additional performance-related bonuses included.

Semenyo has signed a contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031 and will wear the number 42 shirt, previously worn by club legend Yaya Touré.

The 26-year-old winger, who was born in London, said goodbye to Bournemouth in style by scoring a stoppage-time winner in Wednesday’s 3–2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester City beat off competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea to secure Semenyo’s signature.

The forward has been in strong form this season, scoring four goals in his last six games. He is currently third on the Premier League goalscoring chart with 10 goals from 20 matches, behind new team-mate Erling Haaland, who has 20, and Brentford’s Igor Thiago with 16.

Semenyo is one goal away from matching his best-ever league return, having scored 11 goals in 36 Premier League starts last season.

Bournemouth signed him from Bristol City for about £10 million in January 2023. He leaves the South Coast club with 32 goals and 13 assists from 110 appearances in all competitions.

Semenyo began his professional career in the Championship, where he recorded 21 goals and 21 assists in 125 games for Bristol City. He also had loan spells at Sunderland, Newport County, and non-league side Bath City.

After joining Bournemouth on a four-and-a-half-year contract, Semenyo signed a contract extension last summer that was due to run until 2030.
